You can now dig into a Christmas ham while shopping for a new couch to collapse into later, as Ikea invites devotees to enjoy a Christmas dinner at the megastore.
The flat-packing giant revealed it is hosting a Julbord feast (Swedish for ‘Christmas table’) at its stores across Australia which will feature a range of dishes including Swedish options.
Cold herring fillets, cured salmon and boiled eggs served with shrimp, dill mayonnaise and seaweed pearls are all on the menu, as well as mustard glazed plant balls with Lingonberry jam.
Christmas staples like turkey drumsticks and baked ham are also on the menu, for those who like to stick to tradition.
For dessert, diners will be treated to either apple cake, cold creamed rice pudding or a cheese board and crispbreads.
Julbord is a tradition in Sweden, with the term literally meaning Christmas table.
The feast has roots in the Catholic tradition of fasting before Christmas, from the Advent, which this year is on November 29, to midnight on Christmas Eve.
Tickets will set diners back $29.95 for an adult and $14.95 for children. Those younger than five are free.
