Cessnock City Libraries are inviting local seniors to take part in upcoming fun and free technology workshops in November and December. The small and friendly workshops will be conducted by tech expert Jess Jones, who will walk participants through taking the first steps to becoming tech savvy. This will include mastering the smartphone, iPad or tablet, and gaining new skills to help get and stay connected. The Tech Savvy Seniors workshop will be held at Cessnock Library on Thursday, November 26 from 10am to 12pm. It is aimed at people who either have never owned a smartphone or are looking to learn more about their smartphone. Kurri Kurri Library will host two Be Connected workshops. The first – on Thursday, December 3 from 10am to 12pm – will introduce participants to the basics of operating and customising their smartphones, along with tips and tricks for taking the perfect photos. The second workshop – on Thursday, December 10 from 10am to 12pm – will help iPad and tablet users learn how to get started with setting up their devices, introduce useful features and customised system settings, and much more. Library services coordinator Rose-marie Walters is encouraging local seniors to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities. “It’s about teaching you that technology isn’t terrifying or to be avoided, but can be an incredibly useful tool when you have the skills to get the most out your device,” she said. Bookings are essential and can be made online under ‘Events’ at libraries.cessnock.nsw.gov.au, or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 or Kurri Kurri Library on 4937 1638.
