Wells proud to cap 100 games with a win

Leicester Tigers centurion Harry Wells believes the team showed ‘the patience and maturity’ to cap his 100th match for the club with a season opening win over Gloucester Rugby in the Gallagher Premiership.

Speaking to LTTV after the match at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, he said, “We haven’t had the easiest period of preparation and I think we’ve shown exactly what we are about today and the backbone in the squad.

Four tries between Kobus Van Wyk, Tom Youngs, Richard Wigglesworth and Charlie Clare earnt the club a bonus-point win over Gloucester to kick of the 2020/21 season with maximum points.

“I think today was the kind of patience and maturity that we’ve grown over the last few month”, he said.

“When Gloucester scored again, that’s where we might have panicked previously and maybe lost the game.

“I think that control and sticking to the game plan, rather than chasing the bonus-point try, and believing in what we are trying to do is really important.”

On what was a proud day for him personally, Wellsy thanked his family for their support on his journey from Tigers academy to 100 caps.
